The Mind Science Foundation’s Distinguished Speaker Series invites area residents to learn more about the unconscious mind. The foundation welcomes neuroscientist Dr. Heather Berlin on Tuesday, March 29, at Pearl Stable. Berlin is an assistant professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New Your City, and her lecture will address the ways that conscious impulses, thoughts or desires become unconscious and how decisions and behaviors can be influenced by stimuli processed outside of awareness.
Berlin’s work and research focuses on brain-behavior relationships affecting the prevention and treatment of impulsive and compulsive psychiatric disorders. Berlin is passionate about science communication and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Science and Entertainment Exchange, co-host of the CUNY TV series Science Goes to the Movies, and presenter on the Discovery Channel series Superhuman Showdown. She has made numerous media appearances including the History Channel, BBC World Service, StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson and TEDx.
The event hosted by the Mind Science Foundation takes place at Pearl Stable, 312 Pearl Pkwy. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A at 7:15 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.mindscience.org.
