The Hindu Celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, Returns to San Antonio on Nov. 14


For the 7th year, San Antonio brings the bright lights of India to Texas with the celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, also known as Deepavali. This ancient Hindu festival is celebrated each autumn and is the biggest festival in India. Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

San Antonio’s Diwali celebration is the only city-sanctioned event of its kind in the nation and draws more than 15,000 people from all over Texas. The festival starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at La Villita and moves into the evening with entertainment, “Diya Floats,” a fireworks display, vendor booths and lots of delicious Indian cuisine.

DiwaliDiwali SA begins at La Villita, 418 Villita St. in downtown San Antonio, at 5 p.m. The free event is supported by the India Association of San Antonio and other regional Indian associations. For more information, visit
