Electric lighting is a wonderful thing, but too much of it at night obscures the night sky, which is a Hill Country treasure. Urban sprawl and development has dimmed the beautiful Hill Country starry nights, and the Hill Country Alliance and the Keep Utopia Dark Sky Program hopes to “shine a little starlight” on the problem on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6-9 p.m. at the Rock’n O Ranch, 303 Thanksgiving Road in Utopia.

The event will feature Bill Wren from the McDonald Observatory, who will share his expertise on the value of the night sky and simple strategies to keep the stars shining bright. Participants will also learn money-saving tips, ways to eliminate wasteful outdoor lights at our home and in your neighborhood and community. Light refreshments served, and the event is BYOB and BOT (Bring a Telescope!).
