Solar Fest 2014 Focuses on Sun Power and Sustainable Living

Event Takes Place Oct. 4 at EcoCentro, on the San Antonio College Campus

One of San Antonio’s premier “green” events, Solar Fest, has a new home this year: the William R. Sinkin EcoCentro building on the grounds of San Antonio College. The annual free event showcases solar power, renewable energy, sustainability and green living. The festival takes place 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

It’s Solar Fest’s first year to partner with Alamo Colleges to host the event at San Antonio College.

The event’s hub will be the new Sinkin EcoCentro building, named after Solar San Antonio’s founder and dedicated this past spring. EcoCentro is a fitting location; the building hosts green and ecofriendly classes and workshops and includes a 3,000-gallon water catchment tank, 135 solar panels, xeriscaping and native plant garden, and an electric vehicle charging station.

As in previous years, Solar Fest 2014 is free and will include a variety of environmental organizations and businesses. Visitors can check out hybrid and electric vehicles and numerous “green” products. There will also be a tree giveaway and a Kid’s Zone.

EcoCentro is located at 1802 N. Main, adjacent to the San Antonio College campus. For more information, visit See display ad on the back cover.
