“The Sugar Drop” Workshops Hosted by Deborah Charnes Begin Jan. 13

San Antonio’s diabetic population tops 14 percent, which is double the national average, according to the American Diabetes Association. That alarming statistic represents tens of thousands of our friends and neighbors who could benefit from natural and holistic options to help them manage their health issues. Local yogi and wellness guru Deborah Charnes is doing her part by offering “The Sugar Drop,” a six-week series of workshops focused on addressing blood sugar levels holistically through Ayurveda, acupuncture, acupressure and yoga.

“Diabetes has touched so many in my family, including myself,” says Charnes, who owns The Namaste Counsel in San Antonio. “While it can be disheartening, it can be managed. Yoga therapy for blood sugar treatment is about encouraging lifestyle changes using tips from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, practices that predate allopathic medicine.”

Charnes is offering 90-minute weekly sessions on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. beginning Jan. 13 or Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 15. Sessions take place at the Semmes Family YMCA at Tripoint, 3233 N. St. Mary’s St. Cost for the six-week series is $99 for YMCA members or $150 for non-members.
