The expansion of farmers markets throughout the area has only enhanced the offerings at the tried-and- true Quarry Farmers & Ranchers Market, which takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Quarry Market parking lot near Whole Foods. The market recently added four new vendors, all of which add to the wide variety and international flavors available at the Quarry market.
The four new additions include Peaceful Pork, the latest venture of Loncito Cartwright, a well-known rancher who is now focusing on heritage pigs that are pastured and fed non-GMO barley-based feed. The second is La Mancha Specialties, which specializes in three different kinds of authentic Spanish chorizo, both fresh and dried.
The third new arrival is Mother Culture, the brainchild of Michelle Garrido, founder of a local food club and the Weston A. Price Foundation chapter leader. Garrido uses raw milk from Miller Dairy Farm to make Michelle’s Greek Yogurt, made with local honey. She also makes coconut yogurt with unsweetened, organic coconut.
Finally, Oh Kimchi Austin recently added its authentic Korean kimchi to the market fare. Already popular with San Antonio market patrons, you must arrive within an hour of closing time to take home a jar of kimchi as Oh Kimchi sells out each week.
