Unity Church Offers Remembrance Service on Dec. 10, Burning Bowl Ceremony on Dec. 31

Unity Church of San Antonio hosts two December events to help readers prepare for the holidays and the New Year ahead.

  • Remembrance Service – Letting Go of Grief, Sadness, 7 p.m. on Dec. 10. The images of joy and happiness that accompany the holiday hoopla are far from the realities of many in our community. Instead, the holidays can bring out feelings of loneliness, grief and depression.

For those struggling with transitions, changes and losses, Unity offers its Remembrance Service to recognize the spirits of those who have touched your life and to clear space for the holiday season. The service hopes to move people through feelings of grief and depression so they can celebrate the holidays with a joyful heart.

  • Burning Bowl Ceremony – Releasing the Old and Making Space for the New, 7 p.m. on Dec. 31. New Year’s Eve is an ideal time to release the old year and create space for goals and desires for the year ahead. The Burning Bowl Ceremony provides the opportunity to let go of 2014 and all the thoughts and ideas that no longer serve the highest good. Through this letting go, openings are created for new thoughts, ideas and opportunities. The ceremony starts with a meditation. Afterward, paper is provided so participants can write down things that no longer serve them. The paper is then thrown into the burning bowl as the fire symbolically burns away the old to make way for the new.

Both events at Unity Church take takes in the church sanctuary, located at 1723 W. Lawndale. For more information visit www.unityofsa.org.
