For both novice and die-hard runners, a half marathon (13.1 miles) is an attainable goal, and there’s still time to build up and prepare for San Antonio’s premier local running event: the 2016 Alamo Run Fest, taking place on Sunday, Feb. 21. The event includes half marathon, 10K and 5K distances, so there’s a distance option suitable for every local runner.
The races begin at the Alamodome, and one of the coolest things about the event is all distances finish inside the Alamodome.
Another unique part of the Alamo Run Fest is the fact that the half marathon distance includes more than five miles on roadways inside historic Fort Sam Houston. All half-marathoners who complete the distance receive a finisher medal.
The run fest is actually a twoday event that includes a Health & Wellness Expo inside the Alamodome on Saturday, Feb. 20. The expo features a variety of health and wellness vendors and is open all day Saturday, continuing through post-race festivities on Sunday.
The event’s title sponsor is H-E-B, which underscores the annual run fest as San Antonio’s premier local running event. The event’s primary beneficiary is America’s Fund (americasfund. org), which directs urgently needed resources and financial support to post 9/11 injured and critically ill service members and their families.
