It’s always wonderful when new health-focused and planet-friendly businesses open and existing businesses and studios expand in the greater San Antonio area. The more the better! Here are several new openings and recent expansions:
NEW! Local Health Market – 16535 Huebner Rd., #112, near the intersection of Huebner and Bitters. Local Health Market is the brainchild of nutritionist Sarah Treat, who hopes to provide a one-stop environment where people of all ages can make permanent changes to improve their health. The new market opened in late September and features healthy meals to go, prepared by Powerhouse Bakery, organic coffees, healthy supplements and snacks and much more. The market also offers free health assessments (walk-ins welcome) and provides health consultations and educational classes. Learn more at www.localhealthmarket.com.
NEW! Cyclo Coffee and Barista Academy – 2211 NW Military Hwy, #114, at West Avenue in Castle Hills. Cyclo Coffee is a nifty little coffee shop and much more. Yes, you’ll find amazing organic coffees, teas and espresso beverages made to your personal taste, but what you may not expect at a local coffee house is the opportunity to learn to make your own amazing coffee and espresso delicacies. The Barista Academy at the coffee house provides a training ground for aspiring baristas and for other local coffee shops that want to enhance the skills of their employees. It’s also a place where casual coffee drinkers can learn to make their own coffee and espresso drinks at home. Owner Sylvia Miller has created a one-day individual or group class to teach coffee connoisseurs all they need to know, including the right coffee machine to buy. For more information, find them on Facebook or call 210-370-2449.

There’s a new destination for San Antonio’s finest alkaline antioxidant water. Viva H20 opened a third location in north central San Antonio near the intersection of IH-10 and Loop 410, in the same shopping center with Sprouts on Callaghan Road. The Viva H20 filtration and purification process removes chemicals, trace pesticides and other potentially harmful elements from water before infusing the cleansed water with added minerals. In addition to their three locations, they’ll also deliver their water directly to your home or office. To learn more, visit www.vivah2o.com.
NEW LOCATION! JoyRide Cycling Studio – 1003 NW Military Hwy., in the Alon Shopping Centre. If you haven’t experienced an indoor cycling class, you’ve missed out on a high-energy, calorie-burning, exhilarating experience. You may not realize that a local fitness studio focuses almost exclusively on indoor cycling. JoyRide opened its first studio in 2013 in Alamo Heights at 1915 Broadway. Its second studio in the Alon center in north central San Antonio opened in August. JoyRide’s classes combine core elements of Pilates and indoor cycling that maximize your fat-burning and fat-torching experience. For more information, visit www.joyridestudio.com.
