A new farmers market in San Antonio is a reason to celebrate, so mark your calendars for the grand opening of The Southtown Farmers & Ranchers Market at the Blue Star Arts Complex from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
The new year-round Saturday market is the first of its kind in the Southtown area, which currently lacks a grocery store or any other outlet for locally grown food. The goal is to bring residents and tourists together for a delicious introduction and immersion into fresh food and flavors from the city’s growing local food movement.
“Blue Star is the epicenter of the Southtown area and is the perfect location to host this weekly event that will bring fresh food to a hungry community,” says market co-founder and director Heather Hunter. The market location also promotes a healthy lifestyle through the many biking and walking trails the area offers.
Market patrons will find local farm-fresh produce, pastured chicken and eggs, breads, baked goods, vegetarian and vegan options, juices, coffee, local honey, gluten-free foods, dog treats, herbs, plants and much more.
