Dr. Keltner to Focus on “Born to Be Good – The Science of a Meaningful Life”
Many San Antonio residents may not realize that the San Antonio-based Mind Science Foundation offers one of the most interesting and mentally stimulating speaker series events in the area. Its upcoming Distinguished Speaker Series event on Jan. 12 offers a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Dacher Keltner, professor of psychology at the University of California at Berkley and founding faculty director of the Greater Good Science Center.
Keltner’s topic is “Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life,” which is taken from the title of his 2009 book.
In Born to Be Good, Keltner makes the case that the evolution of emotions like gratitude, amusement, awe and compassion are hardwired into our being and that they are the fabric of cooperative societies. Keltner’s research has shown that emotion provides the key to living the “good life” and that path to happiness travels through human emotions that connect and draw people together.
The Mind Science Foundation speaker series event takes place Monday, Jan. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Laurie Auditorium on the campus of Trinity University, 1 Trinity Place.
