DreamWeek Returns to San Antonio with a Plethora of Events, Jan. 9-20


3rd Annual Community Summit Celebrates Diversity, Tolerance, Multiculturalism

DreamWeek is almost too big to explain. It’s a multi-day citywide summit that celebrates San Antonio’s diversity, tolerance and multiculturalism. Numerous organizations across the city will participate and host more then 40 events during the 12-day period, culminating with the Martin Luther King, Jr., march on Monday, Jan. 19. Events will include exhibits, lectures, mixers and much more.

DreamWeek began three short years ago to promote an exchange of ideas on universal issues facing multicultural communities. The event’s goal is to provide an environment for an exchange of ideas through speaking engagements, mixers, workshops and celebrations.

DreamWeek 2015 kicks off Friday, Jan. 9, with an opening breakfast, and will include an awards luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 15, featuring Congressman Lloyd Doggett. The summit will end with a closing mixer at the Southwest School of Art on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Events taking place during the summit include:

  •  An Educator Workshop: Community Voices in Gallery Spaces at the San Antonio Museum of Art, a full-day workshop focusing on Martin Luther King’s message of diversity and tolerance, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the museum, 200 West Jones Ave.
  • The 2nd Sunday Smooth Jazz Series featuring Billy Ray Sheppard at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Davenport Lounge, 203 N. Presa St. n The MLK Jr. Commemorative Lecture Series featuring Tim Wise at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Trinity University, Laurie Auditorium, 1 Trinity Pl.
  • SAGE (San Antonio for Growth on the East Side): Taste the Dream Gala at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd.
  • San Antonio MLK March, one of the largest commemoration marches in the nation, at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, beginning at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, 3501 Martin Luther King Dr.
