Saturday, May 14, will be a big day for the Witte Museum. The day starts with the museum’s 5th Annual Boot Scoot and 5K at 8 a.m., followed at 10 a.m. by the opening of the brand-new Mays Family Center and its debut exhibit, Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed.
Boot Scoot and 5K – This annual event includes a chiptimed 5K run/walk through the Witte Museum grounds and Brackenridge Park. Little runners/walkers can participate in a 1K event that’s just their size. After the run, kick off your running shoes and slip on western boots to take part in a riproaring boot scoot. Style awards will be given. Proceeds from the event benefit the Witte’s educational programs.
Maya Exhibition – This exhibition is the largest traveling exhibit about the ancient Maya civilization to tour the United States, and the stop at the Witte represents the exhibition’s Texas premier. The exhibition combines actual artifacts with multimedia and interactive opportunities. The Maya event, which begins May 14 and continues through Sept. 5, is the Witte’s largest exhibition to date, and the first in the new Mays Family Center, built in part to accommodate more expansive exhibitions like the Maya.
The Witte Museum is located at 3801 Broadway. For more information about the Boot Scoot and 5K run/walk or about the Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibition, visit www.witemuseum.org.
