On Saturday, Oct. 8, historic Houston Street will transform into a colorful gallery through the creativity of both professional and would-be artists equipped with an ample supply of chalk. Artpace’s 13th Annual Chalk It Up is a free festival that raises awareness and support for Artpace’s educational programs by covering downtown with chalk.
All are invited to participate and observe while some of San Antonio’s best artists create chalk murals along Houston Street. Become an artist for a day in the Freestyle area, and work on a city block-sized mural with other festival participants. Kids can also take part in the fun with hands-on educational and artistic activities in the Make Zones.
On Oct. 8 Houston Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the daylong event that includes food trucks, live music, photo booths, performances and more. Artpace nurtures creativity by providing a space for local, national, and international artists to dream, create, and share their work. Through exhibitions and educational programs, Artpace engages the artist and the community.
