Anyone with a new resolution to run needs to register for the 2016 Alamo Run Fest, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 21, and is shaping up to be one of the best local events in the new year. Alamo Run Fest is San Antonio’s signature local running event, and with run distances from 5K, 10K to a half marathon, there’s plenty of challenge and fun for runners at all levels.
The run fest is unique and special for a couple of reasons. First, four miles of the half marathon course wind through historic Fort Sam Houston. Second, all events finish in the Alamodome (how cool is that!). New this year is a Warrior’s Challenge award, which goes to the military branch with the most combined participants (active, retired and former military) in all combined events.
More than a race, Alamo Run Fest includes an expo at the Alamodome on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event’s primary beneficiary is America’s Fund, and active duty military members and their dependents can save 20 percent on online registration. Once again this year, San Antonio-based H-E-B is the event’s title sponsor.
